Everything usually runs smoothly, but one day I was suddenly told that &#8220;the RSS feed is broken.&#8221;<br \/>Even though the browser display looked normal, RSS readers and search engines were unable to fetch the articles.<\/p>\n<p>Tracing the cause revealed that code blocks created with the <strong>SyntaxHighlighter Evolved plugin<\/strong>, along with extra tags output by the theme and editor, were breaking the feed.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>How Far Should You Fix It for Peace of Mind?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>First, make sure <a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/validator.w3.org\/feed\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">W3C Feed Validator<\/a> displays &#8220;This is a valid RSS feed.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>At this stage, you get a bare minimum level of assurance for your RSS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Errors like the following were occurring:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2066\" src=\"https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-1024x296.png\" alt=\"Example of an error\" width=\"1024\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-1024x296.png 1024w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-300x87.png 300w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-768x222.png 768w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-530x153.png 530w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-565x163.png 565w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-710x205.png 710w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238-725x209.png 725w, https:\/\/donguri3.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/c22bbfabb080ec06015379f1a0c14238.png 1341w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>How I Actually Fixed It<\/h2>\n<h3>Moving Code Blocks Outside of Lists<\/h3>\n<p>When placing SyntaxHighlighter Evolved&#8217;s <code><\/code> inside <code>&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;<\/code>, extra <code>&lt;\/p&gt;<\/code> tags were inserted during RSS generation, breaking the feed.<br \/>To resolve this, I moved the code blocks outside of the list items and kept the structure simple.<\/p>\n<div class=\"contain-inline-size rounded-2xl relative bg-token-sidebar-surface-primary\">\n<div class=\"sticky top-9\">\n<div class=\"absolute end-0 bottom-0 flex h-9 items-center pe-2\">\n<div class=\"bg-token-bg-elevated-secondary text-token-text-secondary flex items-center gap-4 rounded-sm px-2 font-sans text-xs\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"overflow-y-auto p-4\" dir=\"ltr\"><code class=\"whitespace-pre! language-html\"><span class=\"hljs-tag\">&lt;<span class=\"hljs-name\">li<\/span><\/span>&gt;Enter the following in PowerShell<span class=\"hljs-tag\">&lt;\/<span class=\"hljs-name\">li<\/span><\/span>&gt;<br \/>\n<span class=\"hljs-tag\">&lt;<span class=\"hljs-name\">pre<\/span><\/span>&gt;<span class=\"hljs-tag\">&lt;<span class=\"hljs-name\">code<\/span><\/span>&gt;powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61<span class=\"hljs-tag\">&lt;\/<span class=\"hljs-name\">code<\/span><\/span>&gt;<span class=\"hljs-tag\">&lt;\/<span class=\"hljs-name\">pre<\/span><\/span>&gt;<br \/>\n<\/code><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Cleaning Up Unnecessary Tags<\/h3>\n<p>When creating articles with the Luxeritas theme or Block Editor, tags like the following are sometimes automatically generated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nested tags such as <code>&lt;strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;\u2026&lt;\/strong&gt;&lt;\/strong&gt;<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Empty tags such as <code>&lt;strong&gt;&lt;\/strong&gt;<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Internal Gutenberg attributes like <code>data-start<\/code> and <code>data-end<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Leaving these behind resulted in leftover <code>&lt;p&gt;<\/code> tags during RSS output, leading to parsing errors.
