Condition of the Broken Hook

First, take a look at the photo of the broken hook.

Hook Repair

The hook I used daily cracked, and I thought it was no longer usable. However, I decided to give repairing it a try. *Note: The iron rod attached to the hook was inserted just to test it, as there happened to be a hole of the right size in the broken hook.

Materials and Tools Used

Here are the materials and tools used this time:

  • Oyumaru (mold-making material, from a 100-yen shop)
  • Acrylic resin powder for nail art (polymer powder, https://amzn.to/3PfFQ44)
  • Liquid to harden the nail art powder (ethyl methacrylate, https://amzn.to/3PfFQ44)
  • Syringe used for applying the resin (from a 100-yen shop)
  • Sandpaper (for finishing)

* The powder and liquid are alternatives to Plaprepair (https://amzn.to/3PfotAr).
* Oyumaru is an alternative to Katadori-kun (https://amzn.to/4a46AhK).

Repair Procedure

Making the Mold

To restore the shape of the broken hook, I used Oyumaru to create a mold.

I heated the Oyumaru to soften it, pressed it against the broken part to shape it, and then let it cool and solidify to create the mold.

Attaching the Mold

I fitted the mold made from Oyumaru onto the repair area.

This serves as a guide for the broken part to return to its original shape.

Repairing with Acrylic Resin

Using the acrylic resin powder for nail art, I poured the resin into the mold.

I mixed the powder and the acrylic liquid into a paste and carefully spread it inside the mold. After that, I waited until it fully cured.

Finishing

I removed the mold and checked the repaired area. If necessary, I smoothed the shape using sandpaper.

Complete!

I actually tried using the successfully repaired hook.

It has solid strength and can now be used just like before!

Conclusion

Even broken plastic hooks can be easily repaired using Oyumaru and nail art acrylic resin powder. Since you can reuse them instead of throwing them away, it is also an eco-friendly method. Be sure to give it a try yourself!
